Hello World!

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the LOve the Game Newsletter!

I wanted to start a newsletter to make it easier to communicate with you about what's going on at the Tennis Center, including class registration information, events, and programs you may not know about, USTA team deadlines, plus any other exciting news about the Tennis Center. My plan is to get an issue posted every month, but sometimes there will be updates within the month (there will be a Lottery Edition published in the next week or so, to tell you everything you need to know about seasonal reservations, whether you're a lottery veteran, or this is your first time entering the lottery). I'll be expanding the newsletter as we go. I'm working on a "___ Spotlight" feature which might highlight a pro, staff person, program, feature of the Tennis Center you might not know about, player, or anything else that might be noteworthy.

In the meantime, I hope you find news you can use in the first issue. If there's anything you'd like to see here, if you have any questions about how something works, or if there's anything you'd like to touch base about, feel free to email me or give me a call.

Special Olympics
We’re really, really proud of our Special Olympics program. It’s the only one of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Every Saturday from 4-5, with the assistance of instructor Gerri Allen and our many dedicated volunteers, the Tennis Center hosts 22 wonderful athletes, our highest number ever! We love to see their progress as the weeks go by, but more than that, we love to see how much fun they have. The positive energy in the building is contagious! The current season ends on May 21, and we’ll start up again the fall. Come by some Saturday and watch. It will make your day!
Masters Tennis

On Wednesday June 8, from 10a-2p, we'll be hosting a Masters Tennis demo. This will be happening during our Head racquet demo day (see above).

Masters Tennis is played on a smaller 60’ court with a lower-compression orange ball. It’s perfect for adults wanting to try or learn tennis, players returning from injury or with mobility issues, or experienced players who no longer want to play full-court tennis, or for anyone interested in a new challenge. It’s easy to learn and fun to play, so come to our demo day and try it for yourself!

If you’re interested in attending the demo, please call the Tennis Center to sign up, so we know how many people to expect. There is no charge.

Head Racquet Demo Day

On Wednesday June 8, from 10a-2p, come join the fun and check out the new line of Head racquets. We'll have on-court drills, giveaways, and lots of fun. At the same time, we'll have a Masters Tennis demo (see below). Everyone is welcome to come try the new racquets. We'd love having our regulars, as well as wannabe players, join us!  There's no charge, but please call to register ahead if you can. Either way, join us!

We’re trying something new this summer—Stroke of the Day clinics. These one-day clinics are exactly what they sound like: each one focuses on a different shot and strategy. Perfect if you can’t commit to a multi-week class. Register only for the dates you want, $20 each. Wednesdays 9-10:30am from 6/29-7/27, taught by Ellen MacPherson.

Summer Jr. Classes
Our summer junior classes (ages 5-18) will be in the same format as last year: 1-week sessions, running Monday-Thursday (exception: there is no class on Monday, July 4). We’re offering all levels and we expect them to fill up quickly, so take a look at the schedule and register here, check the summer catalog, or give us a call at 503-635-5550 and reserve your spot!

Summer Jr. Competitive Program
Our summer junior competitive program will be in the same format as last year: 1-week sessions, running Monday-Thursday (exception: there is no class on Monday, July 4). Level 1 will be from 12-1:30p, and Level 2 will be from 1:30-3p. Take a look at the schedule and register here, check the summer catalog, or give us a call at 503-635-5550 and we'll answer your questions about levels, and help you get signed up.

Private Lessons
Some of the most frequently asked questions at the Tennis Center is about private lessons: How do they work? We do offer private lessons for individuals and groups of all ages. They are taught only by our City instructors. You can call the front desk or email tennis@ci.oswego.or.us to request contact information for the instructors. From there, you contact who you’d like as a teacher, and work out the details, such as cost and time, with them. Then, you can get to work on that devastating forehand.

Ladies’ City League Tennis
If you love to play tennis, then Lake Oswego City League is for you!
Come join the 100+ women who get together weekly to enjoy competitive tennis, share lunch, and meet other players from around the Portland metro area.
We have eight teams of varying levels, and there are currently openings at every level (2.5-4.0). For more information, contact Laurie Lamont at vice.president@lotccityleague.org.

Lottery
The next issue will be a lottery edition, and it will have everything you need to know about the seasonal lottery!
